In 1998 the Ibeo Automobile Sensor GmbH was founded in Hamburg. Until now, the vision and values of the founders are the pillars of Ibeo.
Since 2016, the automotive supplier ZF Friedrichshafen AG holds a 40-percent share in Ibeo: first trough Zukunft Ventures GmbH, and since 2019 trough ZF Automotive Germany GmbH, a 100 percent subsidiary of ZF.

SICK AG, the leading manufacturer of sensors and sensor systems for industrial applications, acquired 90% stake in Ibeo Automobile Sensor.
Foundation of Ibeo Automobile Sensor GmbH with a focus on time-of-flight technology for measuring distance. Starting point was the development of an emergency brake system based on laser scanner technology.
Thanks to Ibeo technology, autonomous vehicles can navigate safely even in urban environments with many obstacles. The “microSNAP” acts both as a passenger shuttle and a cargo taxi and was unveiled at the CES.

Participation in the DARPA Urban Challenge with our own specially developed autonomous vehicle “Team LUX”, which obtained the approval for autonomous driving on public roads in the USA. The DARPA Urban Challenge proved that autonomous driving without LIDAR technology is not possible. With the DARPA Urban Challenge, Ibeo Automobile Sensor GmbH entered the market in the USA.

Dr. Ulrich S. Lages studied mechanical engineering at the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg and holds a BBA from the GSBA Zurich as well as an MBA from the University of Maryland, USA. He founded Ibeo Automobile Sensor GmbH in 1998 and is co-founder of the Ibeo Automotive Systems GmbH.
Mario Brumm studied physical engineering at the University of Applied Sciences of Lübeck and holds an MBA from the University of Würzburg. In 2001, he started his career at Ibeo Automobile Sensor GmbH. After the management buy-out, he became co-founder of Ibeo Automotive Systems GmbH.
Michael Kiehn studied Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the University of Portsmouth, UK and the University of Applied Sciences Hamburg. Michael Kiehn began his career at Ibeo in 1998 as a design engineer for the development of LIDAR hard- and firmware. In 2010 he became co-founder of Ibeo Automotive Systems GmbH.
Michael Köhler studied electrical engineering with a specialization in communication technology at the TU Dortmund. Afterwards he worked as a hard- and firmware designer for the development of digital satellite receivers. He joined Ibeo in 2001 as a hard- and firmware designer. He is also co-founder of Ibeo Automotive Systems GmbH.
