The LiDAR ibeo LUX sensor detects the area around the sensor and any objects that are present in its field of view. Through continuous rotation of the mirror inside the sensor, in combination with the laser beam, a complete image of the environment within the sensor range is generated. The scan data of the ibeo LUX comprise distance, angle and echo pulse width: the ibeo LUX allows detection of the environment in a field of view of 110 degrees and at a distance of up to 200 metres. Another feature of the sensor is the synchronization of the time and the moving mirror. The time of the sensor is synchronized with an external reference time, while the frequency of rotation of the mirror is adjusted by means of a periodic external signal.
This sensor has a multitude of potential fields of application in the automotive sector: the sensor is equally suitable as an assistant for adaptive cruise control and as a pedestrian protection device. The wide range of possible applications results from its precise measurement irrespective of speed, weather conditions and traffic intensity.
There are three versions of the ibeo LUX: with four or eight scan levels and as a HD version with special software for use in dusty and damp environments.
With the recently developed ibeoNEXT Solid State LiDAR, Ibeo is taking its leadership in LiDAR sensor technology still further. In view of the large detection range, high resolution and large vertical angle, the development of a 4D LiDAR sensor is a milestone on the path to fully automated driving.
