Since September 2019, Ibeo takes part in the research project “Reconfigurable hardware platform for AI-based sensor data processing for autonomous driving” (KI-FLEX). This project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The goal is to develop a chip and an associated software framework that can perform calculations in the autonomous vehicle faster and more efficiently. For example, if the comparison between the HD-map and the vehicle’s surroundings is carried out faster, the vehicle can locate its position on the map in a more solid and accurate way. This is an important element in making autonomous driving even more safe and reliable.
