The LiDAR expert at ITS:
Ibeo presents new sensor solutions at the world's largest event for intelligent mobility

Hamburg, Germany, 11th October 2021 – Hamburg-based automotive lidar specialist Ibeo presents various innovative technology solutions at the ITS World Congress, the world's largest event for smart mobility, digitization of transportation and automotive technology (Hall B7/Booth no.: B7450). Ibeo's activities focus on the most important building blocks for the (semi-) autonomous driving of the future. Among other things, the new so-called solid-state LIDAR sensor ibeoNEXT will be on display. It is particularly compact, does not require moving parts and is already internationally regarded as a game changer for autonomous driving in the technology industry. Further highlights: Equipping a Deutsche Bahn train with ibeoNEXT systems as part of the Sensors4Rail project and demonstration of a fully autonomous platform for various mobility applications.

From 11 to 15 October 2021, the ITS World Congress will take place in Hamburg. It is the world's largest event dedicated to intelligent mobility, digitization of transport and automotive technology. Because the mobility of tomorrow urgently needs new technological answers to questions surrounding safety and sustainability, but also comfort. At ITS, these solutions will be presented by various companies. For Ibeo – a LiDAR pioneer from Hamburg – the ITS is a real home game for various reasons: “We research, develop, test and market our products worldwide – for example in China, the USA, Australia or South America. Our company is headquartered in Hamburg – this is where our heart beats, and where the activities of now over 400 employees at our locations in Germany, the Netherlands and the USA are coordinated. Within two decades, we have created a company here in Hamburg that is a world leader in the development of LiDAR systems. The feedback we regularly receive after visits from foreign guests shows me how positively our location is perceived outside our company. And I am sure that the ITS World Congress in Hamburg will have just as much impact on international visitors. We are proud that we can do our part with great and innovative products,” says Ibeo CEO Dr. Ulrich Lages.

Boarding the digital train of the future

It is not only possible to experience the Ibeo highlights at the event stand, but also at various locations around the city. Ibeo is an official cooperation partner of the "Sensors4Rail" pilot project from Deutsche Bahn, which is part of the "Digitale Schiene Deutschland" sector initiative. The aim of the project is to increase the capacity, reliability and efficiency of the German rail system. To achieve this, the trains were equipped with cameras, radar, digital HD maps, (satellite) positioning technologies and twelve real solid state ibeoNEXT LiDAR sensors from Ibeo. The aim is to be able to precisely determine the position of the train at any time without having to install additional infrastructure along the route. Other well-known companies such as Bosch Engineering, Siemens Mobility and HERE Technologies are also among the cooperation partners and are helping to lead rail transport into a digital future.

ITS visitors interested in this future mobility solution will have the unique opportunity to ride on one of these trains. During the World Congress, a train fully equipped with the above sensors and systems will run between the Bergedorf and Dammtor stations several times a week. Ibeo and "Digitale Schiene Deutschland" invite all interested parties to board the train of the future and take a tour of Hamburg.

Applied EV – Demonstration of the autonomous capabilities of the Blanc Robot platform

Ibeo will be presenting the Blanc Robot platform for the first time on German soil, together with the Australian partner Applied EV. The concept of this autonomous electric mobility solution is simple on paper, but quite amazing in reality: Blanc Robot can be configured for a range of autonomous applications, including cargo and parcel delivery or the transport of heavy equipment. All these potential use cases benefit from the fact that the Blanc robot platform is able to drive autonomously, on- and off-road.

Each Ibeo vehicle platform will be equipped with ten ibeoNEXT sensors and the Ibeo Driver. With Ibeo as a partner and ibeoNEXT on board, the Blanc Robot platform is equipped for Level 4 autonomous driving and ready for the future. The possibilities are almost endless.

ibeoNEXT experts chat about the status quo and the future of LiDAR technology

At the Ibeo booth (Hall B7/Booth no.: B7450), experts will provide information about the latest developments regarding the Ibeo flagship product, ibeoNEXT. In the industry, the solid-state lidar technology it relies upon is considered an important part of future autonomous driving. On site, visitors can follow the live data from the ibeoNEXT and learn more about this technology through interactive touch applications.

About Ibeo

Ibeo Automotive Systems GmbH has established itself as a global technology leader for LiDAR sensors (English acronym for Light Detection And Ranging) and the associated products and software tools. This technology is used as an assistance system in cars and in the field of autonomous driving. It is Ibeo’s goal to reinvent mobility by enabling cars to become cooperative partners in the driving process, so making transportation safer. In total, Ibeo employs more than 400 people at its sites in Hamburg (Germany), Eindhoven (Netherlands) and Detroit (USA). In 2021, AAC Technologies became a shareholder of Ibeo. Since 2016, the automotive supplier ZF Friedrichshafen AG has been a shareholder of Ibeo: initially via Zukunft Ventures GmbH, and since 2019 via ZF Automotive Germany GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of ZF.
