Ibeo is part of the research project “VanAssist”, which was launched in October 2018. The goal is to help deliverymen at the last stretch of distribution. Central point of the research are small, autonomous, electric vehicles, that allow emission-free parcel delivery in urban centres. The approach includes route optimization, the vehicle finds its way autonomously to the next stop, while the deliverymen distributes the parcels by foot. Ibeo develops the Safety-System, which monitors all components and enables driving autonomously. The ibeoNEXT Solid State LiDAR Sensor is used for object tracking and localisation of the vehicle in the surroundings.
The Project is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure through the founding programme “Automated and interconnected Driving” and expires end of 2020. Project partners are DPD, IAV, bridgingIT, the Institute for Automotive Engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig, the Technical University of Clausthal and the University of Mannheim.
