Hamburg/Überlingen, June 22, 2020 – The Hamburg-based LiDAR specialist, Ibeo Automotive Systems GmbH, develops technology for driverless cars. In the 27th year of the TOP 100 innovation competition, the medium-sized company was once again awarded the TOP 100 seal of approval. In the scientific selection process, the company, which is in size Class C (more than 200 employees in Germany), was particularly impressive with its innovation management. For the second time, Ibeo Automotive is one of the top innovators.
The Hamburg-based company, Ibeo, is developing the future of mobility with its LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) sensors and associated software. This is also reflected in its new organizational structure, a self-organization free of hierarchy. The idea behind it: to strengthen the innovative power of the more than 400 employees worldwide and to be able to react even more flexibly.
Open for innovation and change
“As a leading international developer, we are driving the future of autonomous driving in Europe, China and the USA,” said Founder and Managing Director Dr. Ulrich Lages. “We are proud to have been awarded the TOP 100 seal once again, as it shows that we are on the right track with our new company organization. Without our great employees and their pioneering spirit, our pace of innovation would not even be possible.”
In the TOP 100 competition, the innovation management of Ibeo Automotive Systems GmbH was awarded an overall rating of “A”. The categories assessed here include Top Management that promotes innovation, Innovation Climate, Processes and Organization, and External Orientation / Open Innovation. The “A” rating is awarded to companies that have an unusually professional innovation management system, even by international standards. According to the TOP 100 evaluation, the probability of future innovation success at Ibeo is rated very high.
Safe roads of tomorrow
Ibeo is developing systems based on LiDAR technology that act as “sensory organs” for vehicles and are the very thing that makes safe autonomous driving possible in the first place. The current generation of sensors is called “ibeoNEXT Solid State LiDAR”. With more than 10,000 lasers on a single chip, it ensures maximum accuracy and processes many laser pulses simultaneously. The result is an exact 3-D model of the environment, which recognizes crash barriers and road markings as well as cars, cyclists and pedestrians and their position and movement.
