| | The aim of the SAFESPOT integrated project is to detect hazardous driving and traffic situations before they arise. By anticipating danger in this way, both drivers and active safety systems can be fed the data required to avoid an accident.
This project focuses on a cooperative approach. The data acquired by vehicles and the infrastructure are communicated wirelessly. The information is assimilated in environmental models and used to predict hazards and trigger appropriate warning strategies.
For several sub-projects of the SAFESPOT IP, Ibeo Automobile Sensor is supplying the ALASCA XT laser scanner and developing various new algorithms capable of appreciably expanding the application range of laser scanners for environment detection purposes.
SAFEPROBE
Ibeo is supplying two ALASCA XT laser scanners and elaborating a cooperative object tracking and classification solution that brings together data relating to objects delivered by vehicle-vehicle and vehicle-infrastructure communications.
INFRASENS
Ibeo is supplying two ALASCA XT laser scanners for use as crossroads sensors. Besides enhanced object tracking and classification procedures, processes for more accurately detecting weather conditions (rain, snow, fog) are being developed as well.
SINTECH
In this project Ibeo is using laser scanner distance profiles to implement high-precision positioning procedures based on dynamically generated 3D maps. For this purpose a further ALASCA XT laser scanner is being installed in the project's test vehicles.
Testsite Dortmund
Trials and testing in the SAFESPOT IP are taking place in several locations. Ibeo has installed two ALASCA XT laser scanners at an inner-city crossroads in Dortmund. The principal task here is to detect road users, including pedestrians and cyclists.
