Integrating one laser scanner - forward installation in cars
Integrating a single laser scanner in the front of the vehicle, e.g. below the number plate, can provide a monitoring range of 150°. This type of integration is suitable for practically every application that requires a wide field of view in front of the vehicle (e.g. ACC Stop&Go, Traffic Jam Assistant, Pedestrian Protection, Automatic Emergency Braking, PreCrash etc.).
Integrating two laser scanners - corner installation in cars
Some applications call for a field of view that covers both the sides of the vehicle and the area in front of it (e.g. Crossroads Assistant, Pedestrian Protection, Lane Change Assistant etc.). In such cases it is appropriate to install one scanner on each side at about the same height as the headlights.
This configuration gives rise to a 220° field of view and captures all objects, both in front of the vehicle and approaching from the side. The lateral velocity of objects can be measured in order to avoid side-on collisions, which typically occur when drivers change lanes on high-speed roads.
